FREE NEPAL : from evolutionary historic background to new searches of noble strategy
The boom of information technology reflects the basic characteristics of development aspects of the era we live.
When we’d first opportunity to be acquainted with the internet technology in the beginning of 1994, it awaked us to conceive a plan of enriching the values of Nepalese literature, art and cultural through internet in spite of our physical location in the planet. We imagined that our dreams come true if we will research deeply the opportunities of internet as well as web technology.
By the mid of 1998, we started to publish some materials (including the scanned copy of handwriting materials and art photos) giving title “Nepali Sahitya” in free web hosting platforms offered by popular web portals like uproar, geocities, angelfire, yahoo, msn and some Russian portals like da_ru and mtu_webzone. Our first attempt was launched as “freenepal.da.ru” ( Issue N0.1 ) in the internet by the end of 1999. The trial version of Free Nepal was launched as “freenepal.webzone.ru” (Issue N0.2) in 2000. Officially registering the domain, we’ve been launching” freenepal.com” since 2001. All the materials from the beginning of FREE NEPAL have been systematically stored in this archive http://sahitya.freenepal.com.
In web pages, we felt free to publish any materials we liked without delay and without outside bureaucratic interference existing in official publications of any country. We requested people to send their materials to publish in our site and offered to visit our web pages frequently.
We assumed that we can contribute our country providing specific materials through internet, which inspire people to think for being free from illiteracy, poverty, backwardness, humiliation in the competitive world.
Then we developed a logo with a flying pigeon in the sky over the mountains, giving name SwatantraNepal in devnagari scripts and “FREE NEPAL” in English.
Now people are realizing the adequate meaning of our site “FREE NEPAL” for total independence of existing political chaos and uncertainty for a long period.
But we have no more political as well as religious targets behind our movements till now.
In such our historical context, after it’s foundation in 1998, FREE NEPAL became a worldwide network working on Nepali literature, art, and culture.
FREE NEPAL have been publishing materials into five different languages- Nepali, English, Russian and others.
Till now, FREE NEPAL became only the internet journal published in Nepali, English, Russian, Maithili and newari, which is dedicated to Nepali literature, art and culture.
The main purpose of this publication was to offer you large variety of informative materials promoting the development of general and moral life aspects. We never gave priority to the chaotic and other bawdy materials harming the society. Moreover, we have been trying not to publish any ‘good’ article already published in the other sites till it has been specially deleted there.
Today, our website covers renewing latest news, public opinion and views 24 hours a day. We have own representative in different countries around the world. Now, freenepal is becoming a real voice of Nepal and Nepalese Diaspora.
As internet has been playing as worldwide network, people can have easy access to know the facts about our beautiful country through online media, which may play positive role in Nepal’s tourism development.
Today, there are innumerable attractive Nepalese sites in the internet. But we’ve successfully developed our best social status as well as links through carrying out several
literary as well as social programs. FREE NEPAL has awarded noted personalities like poet Bhim Darshan Roka and poet Naresh Shakya (we’ve taken life long obligation for his medical cares).
We have been planning for the execution of some of the important strategic programs:
- Develop our web journal as web portal so that people have opportunities to take initiative as a partner of FREE NEPAL ;
- Publish regularly the articles in various languages promoting Nepal’s tourism;
- Activate our social programs in the national level ( for example, to proclaim somebody to be a Man of the Year after evaluating the person’s contribution for our nation);
- Continue publication of the monthly literature based issues to promote young writers;
- Launch online radio, web casting and online directory;
- Arrange the publication of FREE NEPAL Bulletin in print version with full-fledged discussion on current national issues.
Thus we will have different new ways to go ahead in the competitive online circumstances.
We have own reporters in Kathmandu and other major districts and cities of the country. We collect news from our own reporters and also from other news agencies too. We are trying to keep in contact more than 2 million non-residential Nepalese. FREE NEPAL is trying to be leading online Nepalese media.
We tried to stand in own legs for a decade without advertising support. We, now, realized that it’s not possible to take new height of success without sound economic base and reliable financial support. We have no other resources for this, that’s why we have been working in this direction to receive advertisement support from the varies companies from Nepal and outside of Nepal. FREE NEPAL offers its services to consumers free-of-charge and will derive its revenues from advertisers and e-commerce merchants.
FREE NEPAL’s main objective is to bring “news as event happens”; quality news which is impartial, timely and independent from political views. Our equally important other objective is to make this a web portal for all people around the world who have any interest, or need any information about Nepal. FREE NEPAL’s has deep seated belief in democratic freedom of press for the positive change in people and the society. We do commit to provide true picture of news and analytical reviews to the Nepalese society. But we have been enforced to face many obstacles to affirm professionalism in the running tracks.
We believe that the noble thought for unique creation may bring positive changes in life, society, country as well as in the world.
